Delete your DNA from 23andMe right now

The genetic information company declared bankruptcy on Sunday, and California’s attorney general has issued a privacy “consumer alert.”  “I remind Californians to consider invoking their rights and directing 23andMe to delete their data and destroy any samples of genetic material held by the company,” he said in a statement.

The situation is a privacy nightmare but also an example of how state privacy laws pioneered in California can help protect Americans — at least the proactive ones.
